Tuned By The Village Geek

Our name brand notebook computers are advertised them as “Tuned by The Village Geek” or "Tuned By TVG".  Some customers have wondered what exactly that means.

Since the beginning customers have brought us new computers they purchased at the “Big Box” stores.  They experience problems because the computer is slow, or infected with viruses and spyware.  Some times they believed they were getting free Antivirus or Office Suites when in fact the computers were jammed full of trial software.

Trial software is great if you are considering buying the package.  However if you think you are protected against virus and spyware infection, trial software can lead to disaster when you find your system is crashed.  Returning the system to the Big Box Store or the manufacturer will at best end send you home with no resolution and might end up reformatting your hard drive and losing your data, possibly incurring a large fee.

Trial office suites can leave you short too.  We had a student in our office a while back that needed to turn in her homework, only to have the trial of Microsoft Office expire and block her from accessing the project.

These new notebooks come with dozens of icons all over the desktop designed to get you to buy something, and with software installed to keep you dependant on the manufacturer for support, support that is typically offshore and maddeningly frustrating.

New notebooks often have less then optimal RAM.  With the memory hog software installed from the likes of HP, Dell, Nero, Sonic, Norton, Webroot and McAfee the computer will struggle to operate, especially the less expensive models running Vista.

When we say “Tuned by The Village Geek” we mean this system will have the trial software removed, the manufacturer’s software will be removed, when it makes sense to do so, and the ‘tweaks’ that we know to make Vista and XP run well will have been installed.  A real antivirus will be active, unless you opt to install your own.  Memory size will be boosted on those systems that need it.

Basically what it means is the computer will be ready to use, for what you want to use it for, not just to sell you software and support.  Since the manufacturer’s support is included with your purchase, and The Village Geek’s support is included when you buy from us, you increase your performance and double your support options.
