Why Buy From The Village Geek?
We’ve posed this question before, and typically the answer is service. In fact it still is. But this month I want to point out how service relates to products.
It is true that you can find some real low ball prices in the newspaper each week for notebooks, monitors, even complete desktop PCs. If you are reading this article, you know that Village Geek Computers has those items, and while our prices are competitive, we don’t have any loss leaders.
But what will you gain buy purchasing from Village Geek instead of a big box store?
You may be surprised to find out there is a pretty big difference. Let’s take monitors for example. We sell LCD monitors and Best Buys has them for the same price. It is safe to say on Sunday they will run a newspaper ad offering a similar model at a discount, or with a rebate. So if they can save you a few bucks, why not take them up on it?
Oh my friends, let me count the ways:
- Some of the specials include a rebate, as you certainly know by now rebates are sometimes conditioned in a way that you may not actually get the money back.
The Village Geek doesn’t have rebates, when we put something on sale; you keep the savings in your pocket.
- “Big Box” stores negotiate special pricing from the manufacturers. To get those prices they allow the manufacturers to shorten the warranty to 1 year.
The Village Geek can’t negotiate those kinds of deals, we are too small. Every LCD the Village Geek sells has a 3 year warranty, we don’t carry anything less.
- When you buy a product from a Big Box store and there is a problem you have ten days to return it to the store. After that, you must deal with the manufacturer, unless you paid them extra for an extended warranty. If you buy the extended warranty, they will ship the product back to the manufacturer for you. Typically you wait until the manufacturer replaces the part, which can be six weeks or more.
When you buy from The Village Geek you can bring the product back for warranty service anytime during the typical three year warranty period. If it features a manufacturer’s warranty, we will loan you a replacement until they get it fixed. You don’t have to buy an extended warranty; it is what we call good service.
- When you buy a notebook from a Big Box store they will try to sell you an Antivirus product (whatever one they have a spiff on), and typically they will hand it to you in a box and send you down the road. When you get home it will take you literally hours to get your new notebook cleaned up and ready to use, and the Antivirus software loaded. If you do not spend the time to clean it up first, the system will not run as well as you hoped it would. If you don’t know how to clean it up, you may end up bringing it to us to have that work done.
When you buy a notebook from the Village Geek, we will also try to sell you an Antivirus product (it will be one that we have tested and we know we can trust). We will install the antivirus software, as well as do the cleanup on the system so you don’t have to. We will also transfer your data to the new system before you pick it up, so it is ready to go to work when you get home with it.
Oh, by the way, we will clean up the system even if you don’t buy the antivirus products, and we don’t charge for doing it when you buy the notebook from us.
