The Beat Goes On

We recently updated the specs on our new PC line up, with Quad Core processors taking the lead.  Quad core means you have one processor that has four processing cores and the speed improvements are astonishing.  Intel recently released the new i7 processor, which has also joined our new system line up.  The i7 processor has 4 cores and hyperthreading.  Hyperthreading allows a single core to process multiple threads at the same time, it is not the same as eight processors, but is does increase the ability of the 4 core processor to handle data.

The new i7 motherboards use DDR3 memory, and the processor handles the bus speed, meaning the motherboard speed can be upgraded just by switching processor chips.  The new memory is capable of peak transfer speeds of up to 12800MB/s more then twice the speed of the more common DDR2 667 at 5333MB/s

Windows 7 has been widely released into beta, as Microsoft tries to get away from the reputation that Vista built.  Windows 7 is pretty much an update to Vista with many of the bugs gone, and irritating features removed.

Here at the Village Geek we have expanded to start working on Mac computers as well as providing our three new Drop Off Depots listed on the home page.
